Elton John and his partner David Furnish are one of the oldest Hollywood couples that had the courage to be openly homosexual, even before the law accepted it with as warmth as it does now. The iconic British singer, composer, and pianist, Elton John got married to producer and actor Dalton John in 2005.
Though the couple is living a happy life together now, it did come to them as easily as it may seem. Given their celebrity status, and the earlier laws around homosexuality, the couple had to endure over two decades of staying without marriage.

Who is David Furnish?
Originally from Ontario, Canada, David Furnish is well known for his work as a producer and actor for movies like ‘Rocketman‘ (2019), ‘It’s a Boy Girl Thing‘ (2006), and ‘Gnomeo & Juliet‘ (2011). He also works as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rocket Entertainment Group. Though he was a fairly popular name before he met Elton John, his long-term relationship helped him gain more limelight in the industry as well as social and philanthropic circles.
David Furnish met Elton John reportedly at a dinner party that a mutual friend had thrown in 1993. Despite a huge age difference of 15 years between the two, they hit it off and started dating. Their relationship went on for about a decade after they entered into a civil partnership on December 21, 2005 — the day the Civil Partnership Act came into force in the United Kingdom.

Elton John’s Marriage And Family
A few years later, the couple got officially married in December 2014, just months after gay marriage was legalized in England and Wales in March of the same year. The couple was one of the first ones to get married. The day of their marriage, December 21, also marked the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership.
Other than sharing a long relationship even without marriage, the couple also ventured into philanthropic work together. They donated and sponsored several charitable causes, including ones concerning HIV-AIDS research, LGBTQIA+ rights, and other humanitarian causes. They also started a charitable foundation together, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, that works for the prevention and treatment of the deadly disease. David Furnish is the Chairman of the foundation.
The two also have two sons, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, born in 2010, and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, born in 2013. The children were born through surrogacy. The family lives together in England.
