Booster Gold has been a strange presence in DC history for almost 40 years. Comic fans will recognize him as a fan favorite, but the general public has yet to get a good look at him.

That could soon change. The much-awaited Booster Gold series has made significant progress, as revealed in a recent update, with one of DC’s most underrated characters moving closer than ever to starring in his own live-action series.

Writer David Jenkins recently announced that he has finished the pilot script for the upcoming Booster Gold series, calling it one of his favorite pilot scripts he’s ever written. That doesn’t mean the show will be immediately picked up for production.

“Just handed the Booster Gold pilot in. I love it. One of my favorite pilot scripts,” he told Bluesky. However, it’s a major step for a project that has been exciting since its initial announcement as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the DC Universe.

Gunn has been stressing the importance of good scripts over the past few times before officially moving projects forward, and this is a big reason why the update is so significant.

In other words, a completed pilot is not just a piece of paper; it’s an important indication of whether the series can become a reality. It would be the first time Booster Gold will be the lead of a live-action DC television series.

It’s hard to believe that the character made his debut in comics back in 1986, but it highlights just how overlooked he has been outside the pages of comic books. It’s like a moment that’s been waiting for decades for longtime fans.

Booster Gold Is Finally Getting His Moment

Booster Gold has always been a bit of a fly on the wall in DC Comics, even if he has one of the most fun concepts ever. The character is a former athlete from the future who is able to transform into a superhero using cutting-edge technology. He is a blend of humor, ambition, and heroism that few DC heroes can match.

However, he has missed the chance for live-action several times. Other attempts at television were made, though none of them ever came to fruition, except for a brief appearance in ‘Smallville’ and a few animated versions.

The DC Universe is a natural fit for the character, given its history. The new interconnected franchise is actively looking for heroes who haven’t already ruled the big screen, unlike in the past. Booster Gold is new for DC. He is also a long-awaited character. And, if the pilot script is any indication, one of DC’s most underutilized heroes could soon be a breakout star.
