For years, a shadow has loomed over Gotham, and it isn’t the Riddler. It is the persistent, mocking meme that Robert Pattinson played the Caped Crusader without ever lifting a single weight. As the actor prepares to don the cowl again for ‘The Batman: Part II, he has finally broken his silence to set the record straight. And it turns out, the “lazyBruce Wayne was actually a 3 AM gym rat.

In a recent interview, the 40-year-old actor addressed the elephant in the room, the public perception that he looked “un-toned” or disinterested in the physicality of the 2022 film. According to Pattinson, the opposite was true.

Everyone was like: ‘You didn’t work out at all,’” Pattinson recounted, his frustration still palpable years later. “I worked out every f—ing day. Even after that, I still look like I didn’t work out. I worked out twice a day at, like, three o’clock in the morning.” So, why the massive disconnect between his reality and the public’s view? The actor points the finger squarely at his own mouth.

Pattinson confessed that he had previously tried to play the “cool guy” card during the press tour for ‘The Batman‘, telling reporters that he didn’t believe in intense workouts. He specifically cited an interview where he downplayed the importance of getting ripped for superhero roles. “I’m like, it’s just because I said it in an interview. I was trying to sound cool!” he admitted.

That “cool” attitude backfired spectacularly. While he was trying to channel the effortless charisma of a ‘70s icon like James Dean, the world heard an actor who couldn’t be bothered. The joke, however, was on the critics. Behind the scenes, Pattinson was engaged in a grueling regimen that included military-style sandbag workouts, boxing (during which he actually fractured his wrist), and daily core circuits. The 3 AM training sessions weren’t for show; they were the reality of his schedule.

The misunderstanding clearly struck a nerve. Pattinson revealed that he has since installed a home gym in his new Beverly Hills residence. He is preparing not just for ‘The Odyssey‘ (the Christopher Nolan epic), but specifically to ensure that when ‘The Batman: Part II‘ finally rolls cameras, there is no doubt about his physical chops.

The sequel, however, seems to be approaching with the subtlety of the Batmobile crashing through a wall. Pattinson revealed that he recently received an ominous voicemail from the film’s stunt coordinator. “He said, ‘Ooh, 11 weeks of nights,’” Pattinson recalled. “I’m like, ‘Excuse me?’… No one’s even sent me a schedule”. It seems even Batman doesn’t get to see the mission briefing until the last minute.

Now, as he gears up to face the cameras again, and presumably the critics who still think he looked “skinny,” Pattinson leaves us with a valuable lesson in Hollywood doublespeak. When a British actor tells you he hates working out, he is probably doing pull-ups in the dark while you sleep. He’s not lazy. He’s just method-acting and being cool.
