Anne Hathaway’s Viral OG Anunoby Comments Spark Knicks’ Historic Playoff Win

Fans credited Anne Hathaway after the New York Knicks delivered a record-setting performance to eliminate the Atlanta Hawks in Game 6 of their first-round playoff series on April 30.

Hathaway, a longtime Knicks supporter and frequent presence at Madison Square Garden, had appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon a day earlier on April 29. During her interview with host Jimmy Fallon, she revealed she had “considered wearing an OG (Anunoby) jersey” on the show.

The comment quickly gained traction after OG Anunoby followed it up with a dominant showing the very next night. The Knicks forward erupted for 29 points, along with seven rebounds and four steals, leading New York to a commanding 140–89 win at State Farm Arena. The victory not only sealed the series but also set a franchise record for the largest margin of victory in a playoff game.

Hathaway was also promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2, which features a cameo from Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns. She even sported a Knicks-themed pocket handkerchief in blue and orange during her appearance, a detail fans didn’t overlook, especially as Towns continued his strong postseason form following the film’s New York premiere.

Towns recorded a triple-double in Game 6, finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, his second of the postseason, while Mikal Bridges added 24 points to cap off a historic night for New York.

Hathaway also shares a viral courtside history with OG Anunoby. During a 2024 game at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks forward nearly crashed into her while she was seated courtside.

The moment quickly made the rounds online, and Hathaway later addressed it in a video, saying, “I’ve always wanted that to happen.” The clip was even replayed during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
