Vanessa Bryant Remembers ‘Mambacita’ Gianna On Emotional 20th Birthday

Vanessa Bryant honored what would have been her daughter Gianna Bryant’s 20th birthday with an emotional tribute on Instagram on May 1.

“Happy birthday to my sweet baby angel, Gianna,” Vanessa wrote in the caption alongside a photo captured by photographer and realtor Tony Florez. “Words can’t express how much I love and miss you, mamacita.”

“Mommy loves you so much! #HappyBirthday #20 💕💕,” she added. Vanessa also shared the tribute on her Instagram Story, pairing it with the song Sunflower by Post Malone.

Gianna, affectionately known as Gigi, tragically passed away in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, alongside her father, Kobe Bryant, and seven others in Calabasas, California.

The heartfelt post drew an outpouring of love from family and friends. Vanessa’s eldest daughter, Natalia Bryant, responded with a series of heart emojis, while Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner also shared their support. Julius Randle’s wife, Kendra Randle, added, “Happy birthday, Gigi❤️.”

Natalia also shared her own tribute, posting two throwback photos of herself and her sister and writing, “Happy Birthday Gigi,” followed by a red heart.

Mamba & Mambacita Foundation Names 2026 Scholars To Mark Gianna Bryant’s 20th Birthday

Vanessa’s tribute drew wider reactions across the sports and entertainment community. LeBron James responded with six red heart emojis. Sabrina Ionescu and Juju Watkins also reacted, along with celebrities including Ciara, Kelly Rowland, and La La Anthony.

The same day, the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation announced the 2026 class of Gianna Bryant Scholars.

“In Gigi’s honor, we are proud to announce the 2026 Class of Gianna Bryant Scholars — 20 exceptional student-athletes from Los Angeles and Orange County, administered in partnership with the California Community Foundation and local Boys & Girls Club affiliates,” the foundation said.

They added, “Congratulations to all of our 2026 Scholars! We are deeply honored to invest in your future. And to our Gigi, Happy 20th Birthday! Your vision, your spirit, and your beautiful heart continue to light the way.”
