A 21-year-old man accused of planning a terrorist attack at a Eras Tour concert by Taylor Swift in Vienna has pleaded guilty, according to reports.
The suspect, identified as Beran A under Austrian privacy laws, entered his plea on the opening day of his trial. He faces charges related to terror offenses and membership in a terrorist organization. The trial is expected to continue through May 12.
Authorities said the accused had planned an attack targeting Swift’s scheduled performances at Ernst Happel Stadium in August 2024. Officials stated the goal was to “kill as many people as possible.”
The alleged plot led to the cancellation of three concerts that were part of Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Vienna. The shows had been set to begin on Aug. 8, 2024. Promoter Barracuda Music confirmed the cancellations at the time after receiving “confirmation from government officials” about the threat.
Investigators said the plan was tied to a broader effort linked to the extremist group Islamic State. Authorities arrested two additional suspects in connection with the case. One of them, identified as Arda K, is expected to stand trial alongside Beran A, although only Beran A has been charged in relation to the concert plot.

According to U.S. intelligence officials, the attack could have caused mass casualties. David S. Cohen said, “They were plotting to kill a huge number, tens of thousands of people at this concert, I am sure many Americans,” as reported by The New York Times. He added that intelligence sharing between agencies helped Austrian authorities intervene before the attack could be carried out.
Taylor Swift addresses cancellations and fan safety

Weeks after the canceled shows, Swift spoke publicly about the decision in a statement shared on Instagram. She described the cancellations as “devastating” but emphasized that safety came first.
“The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows,” Swift said at the time.
She also acknowledged the role of authorities in preventing a potential tragedy. “But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”
Swift said she chose not to immediately speak about the incident due to security concerns. “Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows.”
