The devils in ‘Chainsaw Man‘ are in a way immortal. The devils on earth can be killed, and once they get killed they go back to hell. If for some reason they are killed in hell as well, they get reincarnated on Earth. However, they do not possess any memories of their previous life. This cycle continues and the devils remain fundamentally immortal.
All of the devils regardless of their strength possess certain abilities. Blood healing allows a devil to heal them by ingesting blood and the devils can form contracts as well. Some devils are stronger than others and possess a wider range of abilities. Some devils are strong to the point that other devils are afraid of them such as primal devils.

Who Are Primal Devils?
Primal devils are one of the strongest devils in ‘Chainsaw Man‘. These devils are almost unbeatable and normal devils are terrified of them. Primal devils reside in hell and since they are feared, they haven’t been killed yet. Since a devil needs to be killed in hell to be reincarnated on Earth, this means that there are no primal devils on Earth.
Primal devils as the name suggests are the embodiment of the primal fears that humans have, such as the fear of darkness. These fears are embedded into the minds of humans without any prompting or incident. One of the few primal devils is the darkness devil which embodies the fear of darkness. He is extremely powerful and has never been reincarnated.
There has only been one primal devil introduced in ‘Chainsaw Man‘ but fans theorize that some devils such as the four horsemen and Chainsaw devil may also be primal.
