Kevin McKidd has officially responded to the growing rumors about him joining HBO’s new ‘Harry Potter‘ series. And fans are already getting excited.
Soon after leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘, the actor found himself linked to the role of Arthur Weasley. And it all started with one little clue. But is it all true?
Kevin McKidd Admits The Growing ‘Harry Potter’ Rumors Excite Him

Rumors about Kevin McKidd potentially playing Arthur Weasley in HBO’s new ‘Harry Potter‘ adaptation started spreading after fans noticed that young actress Gracie Cochrane, who will portray Ginny Weasley, began following the actor on Instagram.
That interaction quickly sparked online chatter that McKidd could be joining the wizarding world as Ron Weasley’s father. The ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ star addressed the speculation in an interview with EW while discussing his recent departure from the long-running medical drama.
Although McKidd avoided confirming whether he is actually joining the show, he admitted that he would love to be part of the magical world. “I saw something about this. And listen, I would never say never. I’m a massive Harry Potter fan,” McKidd said during the interview.
The actor also explained why the rumors mean so much to him personally. McKidd revealed that he almost joined the original ‘Harry Potter‘ film franchise years ago. But he missed out on the opportunity due to another television project.
“The idea of getting another crack at that, because I was asked to be in it once. It already gets me very excited,” McKidd shared. He then added, “So listen, if those rumors can turn into something real, I would be very happy about that.”
The Opportunity Kevin McKidd Missed Due to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

McKidd revealed that the missed opportunity happened before he joined ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘. At the time, he was working on the show Journeyman and was waiting to hear whether the series would return for another season.

“When I did a show called Journeyman before Grey’s, we were on the bubble and waiting to find out if we we’re picked up [for season 2] or not. So I was under contract, and [director] David Yates sent me a letter offering me a role in the final two Harry Potter films, and I was unable to do it because I was waiting to hear if Journeyman was picked up or not, and then it was not picked up,” McKidd recalled.
The actor admitted that the missed chance still disappoints him today. “So I missed out on that chance of being in the final two Harry Potter films back in the day. It still makes me sad,” he said.
McKidd also shared that he would have played “some kind of werewolf character,” which strongly suggests he was being considered for the role of Fenrir Greyback. Actor Dave Legeno eventually played the frightening werewolf in the films.
McKidd recently wrapped up his 18-season journey on ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ as Owen Hunt. Now that he sounds so openly excited about the ‘Harry Potter‘ rumors, many fans are hoping the actor may finally get the magical opportunity he missed years ago.
