1. Norman Osborn

Norman Osborn in Spider-Man

Green Goblin aka Norman Osborn, the wealthy industrialist, may not have started with superpowers. However, his descent into madness is legendary. Fuelled by his sense of privilege and insanity Osborn took on the role of the horrifying Green Goblin

A brute who killed Gwen Stacy – an incident that hurts Spider-Man fans to this very day – the Goblin is a vengeful and sadistic adversary. Despite being ‘heroic’ briefly as the director of S. H. I. E. L. D., it was all proved to be a manipulative tactic of the power-hungry megalomaniac. So, it is safe to say, that Norman Osborn is the villain who enjoys the suffering he causes to others.

2. Namor

Namor in Black Panther 2

The enigmatic ruler of Atlantis, Namor, is a complex character. He’s saved the world on multiple occasions. However, his loyalty often lies first with his underwater kingdom. This fierce protectiveness has led to clashes with heroes like the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.

Namor’s egoism and his readiness to attack the surface world whenever he feels that Atlantis is endangered seal his position on the villains’ side. In addition, there’s a very thin line between being a passionate protector of one’s people and a petulant warlord and Namor loves to be right on edge.

3. Emma Frost

Frost as a character can be considered quite interesting. Created as a mutant antagonist with her telepathic sisters the Stepford Cuckoos, Emma Frost would later join the X-Men ranks. At one point, she even became the team leader and it appeared that she had reformed, for a while that is.

However, Emma’s ruthless pragmatism and her willingness to manipulate others, often for the “greater good” of mutants, cast a shadow on her supposed heroism. Ultimately, Emma remains a powerful telepath with an agenda that sometimes puts her at odds with even her supposed allies.

4. Bullseye

Bullseye’s path to villainy is a dark one. A talented but troubled young man, Lester (Bullseye’s real name) fell into a life of crime. His exceptional aim made him a feared hitman. Additionally, his obsession with pushing his skills to the limit and a twisted sense of competition with Daredevil, fuel his villainy.

Bullseye revels in the chaos he creates. He is a sadistic jester who takes pride in his deadly accuracy. There’s no chance of redemption for this villain; his heart is as cold and precise as his aim.

5. Baron Zemo

Helmut Zemo, the cunning strategist and master swordsman, is driven by a singular purpose: revenge on Captain America. Zemo had been waiting for the opportunity to attack Captain America and get their revenge. His father, a Nazi scientist, died in the experiments of World War II with the Super-Soldier Serum.

Zemo holds Captain America responsible for his father’s death and has spent a lifetime as a villain because of his resentment. His motives may be sad, but he is still in it for himself. Besides, he is shown as a man who is bound to his past, a man who has not gotten over his hatred and cannot change for the better.

Victor Creed, better known as Sabretooth, is a feral mutant with razor-sharp claws and a thirst for violence. While Wolverine is a popular hero, Sabretooth who is revealed to be his half-brother is pure brute force and is savage.

Moreover, while there are efforts made to depict a more complex side to the character, Sabretooth enjoys giving into his primal urges and takes a sadistic pleasure in inflicting pain. He’s a predator from head to toe, an antagonist, who thrives on chaos and death.

7. Mystique

Raven Darkholme, the enigmatic shapeshifter known as Mystique, is a wildcard. She has from time to time teamed up with heroes such as the X-Men. However, her true loyalties are often shrouded in mystery.

Additionally, Mystique prioritizes the survival of mutants above all else, even if it means resorting to morally dubious tactics. Her willingness to manipulate and deceive, as well as her terrorist past, make her complex and ultimately villainous.

8. The Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, is a powerful mutant with the ability to warp reality.  Her story is one of immense loss and trauma. Witnessing her parents’ deaths as a child, and then being experimented upon alongside her brother Pietro (Quicksilver), left deep scars on Wanda’s psyche.

These traumas along with the god-like authority she possesses have caused hours of vulnerability. Wanda rages in sorrow and ends up hurting people and standing on the villainess line. Despite her desire to be a hero, the possibility of anarchy is ever-present. Moreover, she is a bomb waiting to explode.

9. Deadpool

Wade Wilson, the Merc with a Mouth, is a unique case. Deadpool is a disfigured and unstable anti-hero with a twisted sense of humor and a penchant for violence. Additionally, his past as a mercenary and his current mental state make him a wildcard.

He may team up with the heroes sometimes but his approach is violent and unconventional. Deadpool’s motivations are a mix of self-preservation, a desire for entertainment (often at the expense of others), and a warped sense of justice. Moreover, he’s a walking moral paradox, a protagonist who is as gray as they come, being neither completely good nor evil, never quite settling on one side.

10. Elektra Natchios

Elektra Natchios

Elektra Natchios is a skilled assassin with a tragic past. The events of her parents’ murder drove her to seek revenge and thus led her to a dark path. The Hand trained Elektra into a skilled and lethal ninja where she became an efficient assassin.

However, her relationship with Daredevil has led her to team up with the heroes once in a while. Despite these moments of heroism, Elektra’s loyalty is ultimately to herself and her own survival. She’s a morally ambiguous character, a skilled fighter always on the line between the heroes and the villains.
