Jennifer Lawrence is returning to the world of ‘The Hunger Games’, and it sounds like stepping back into Katniss Everdeen’s shoes was an emotional experience she will not forget anytime soon. After more than a decade away from the franchise, the Oscar-winning actress is reuniting with familiar faces for ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’.
Jennifer Lawrence Reveals Emotional Reunion With Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson

During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Lawrence opened up about reprising her iconic role in the upcoming prequel, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, 2026. “It was unbelievable,” Lawrence said, describing what it was like to return after 11 years.

She also highlighted how familiar the production felt, with several members of the original crew back on set. The reunion with her co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson made the experience even more meaningful.
Lawrence’s reunion with Hutcherson, who played Peeta Mellark, was particularly emotional. The actress recalled how close they remained during filming. “Josh and I didn’t walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other.”
She also shared a silly detail about Harrelson. “And Woody, obviously, came through the window of my hotel room uninvited,” Lawrence recalled. “It wouldn’t be the same if he listened to boundaries or used a door.”
Why ‘Sunrise On The Reaping’ Brings Katniss Back

The new film primarily follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, during the brutal 50th Hunger Games. However, Suzanne Collins’ novel also features a flash-forward epilogue involving Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch, explaining how Lawrence and Hutcherson can return without shifting the story’s focus away from the prequel.
