It has been ruthless bloodshed and structural failure that we have been witnessing during the war between Hamas and Israel. It all started on October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian terrorist organization attacked Israel. Israel has also retaliated, leading to the deaths of thousands of people, resource losses, and damage to infrastructure. In the West, the people supporting either of the sides, especially the Palestinian side, have faced consequences. The addition to the list is Melissa Barrera from the ‘Scream’ franchise.
The ‘Scream’ franchise, started in 1996, is still one of the most thriving horror franchises. Over the six films and other related franchises, the cast has been changing and evolving, but the scare element is still intact, and Sidney Prescott is still that baddie fighting the serial killers and kicking their asses. In the new franchise, Melissa Barrera plays Sidney Prescott. However, due to her recent stance on the Israel-Hamas war, taking the Palestinian side has cost her the role in a famous franchise.

In 2022, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega newly revived the ‘Scream’ franchise. Both ‘Scream’ and ‘Scream VI’ collected a gross amount of $306.6 million, collectively. However, recently, ‘Scream VII’ was slated for a 2024 release. But there has been an unfortunate update that Melissa Barrera will not be a part of the franchise due to her anti-Semitic rant while supporting Palestine.
Recently, she posted on Instagram in support of Gaza as Israel continues to trample on civilians with open-air attacks. She wrote, “Gaza is currently being treated like concentration camp.”
She added, “Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
