The anticipation around ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2‘ continues to grow as more details about the cast begin to surface. Fans have been eager to see which familiar faces will return to the Runway universe, especially after the original film became such a cultural staple.
However, one absence has sparked particular curiosity. Director David Frankel has now revealed that Gisele Bündchenwill not be returning for the sequel. And the reason has nothing to do with any behind-the-scenes conflict.
‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Director Tried His Best To Bring Back Gisele Bündchen

As development on the sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada‘ moved ahead, Frankel and his team actively tried to reconnect with familiar faces from the 2006 film. Among those they reached out to was Gisele Bündchen, whose role as Serena may have been brief but remained unforgettable for fans.

“I think we reached out to Gisele Bündchen, who had a really memorable part,” Frankel shared in his interview with Entertainment Weekly. Her appearance as one of Miranda Priestly’s stylish Runway insiders stood out, particularly during the well-known Chanel boots scene involving Andy Sachs.
At the same time, the production team also had to navigate casting decisions around other returning characters. Reports had already confirmed that Adrian Grenier would not reprise his role as Nate. And now, Gisele joins the list.
David Frankel clarified that Bündchen’s absence has a specific reason. He stated that she was “the only one” to decline to return after being approached about the sequel. But the situation came down to personal commitments during filming. “When we were shooting last summer, she was having a baby, and out of town, it was hard to schedule it,” Frankel explained.
The Sequel’s Cast Details Include Cameos and New Additions

The sequel continues to build its story even without Bündchen’s return. David Frankel confirmed that Heidi Klum returns and “has a nice cameo,” bringing a familiar presence back into the Runway world.

New additions also bring a contemporary touch to the film. Lady Gaga appears in the sequel and performs the Doechii-assisted track “Runway,” adding another layer to the narrative.
Bündchen had earlier reflected on her experience during the film’s 15th-anniversary reunion. She spoke about Anna Wintour, the inspiration behind the story, saying, “She’s a more reserved person [but] she was always very nice to me“. She added, “I think she loved the movie. I mean, I’d be happy if Meryl Streep played me!“
David Frankel also recalled an encounter involving Wintour, saying, “I remember her daughter nudging her through the screening, like, ‘They got that right!’“. He later described meeting her at a tennis event and introducing himself: “I’m David Frankel, the director of The Devil Wears Prada,” after which she pulled her hand away.
He also attempted to include Wintour in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2‘ through an unscripted cameo. However, she “jumped her cue,” and he chose not to ask for another take, which led to the footage being excluded from the final cut.
