Taylor Swift‘s relationship history details were revealed as Swift released ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘, detailing her decade-long situationship with Matty Healy, and her short-lived romance with the singer after her breakup with Joe Alwyn.
As fans start speculating more on their relationship, old clips of the two interacting have emerged on various platforms, in one of which Matty makes a few shady comments about Taylor Swift.
When Matty Healy Threw Subtle Shade At Taylor Swift
Things have not been always sweet between the artists. In 2016, addressing a question about a possible romantic connection between him and Taylor Swift, Matty Healy aggressively denied the claims and also slipped in a shady remark.
In the interview, he talked about how her massive following and fame affect those who are associated with her romantically. Referring to the time when he was linked to her and that led to more people knowing him and his music, he said, “I don’t do anything else, right, so it doesn’t leave a lot of room for me going out, or shagging someone,” he told Q Magazine. He added, “So the one time I did have a flirtation with a girl it ends up going everywhere… I mean, I got on E! News and people were like, ‘Who’s Matt Healy?’ so that was cool.”
Matty then talked about how interested the world is to know more about Swift’s love life, saying, “But I didn’t make a big deal out of it myself. It’s not really anything to talk about, because if she wasn’t Taylor Swift we wouldn’t be talking about her. She wasn’t a big impact on my life. It’s just interesting to me how interested the world is about Taylor Swift.”
He then broke off any possibility of them ever dating, calling it emasculating to date Swift. He said, “If I had gone out with Taylor Swift I would’ve been, ‘F***ing hell! I am NOT being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.’ You know, ‘F***. THAT.’ That’s also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing.”

Taylor Swift And Matty Healey’s Relationship
Both singers were initially linked in 2014 when Taylor Swift met Matty Healy backstage and supported him by wearing his band merch. Later on, Healy returned the favor as he was seen supporting Swift’s album 1989 by wearing one of Swift’s merch to his own concerts. Rumors of them dating followed as Healy denied them constantly.
Afterward, the two were seen hanging out together at parties, and in 2019, while Swift dated Joe Alwyn, Matty sneaked in a nice comment about her in one of her interviews, saying, “I would never slag Taylor off, I think Taylor’s amazing. Taylor, if you ever want someone to help you set up the mics for your acoustic record, just so you know, I’m there“.
In 2023, after news of Swift breaking up with Alwyn after six years – her longest relationship yet – spread like wildfire, news of her dating Matty resurfaced again, only this time there seemed to be a little more truth to it. The two were seen hanging out together and Swift even performed at one of 1975’s shows. Later, Matty was seen at one of Taylor’s shows and their interactions confirmed that the two were, in fact, dating.
While the romance was short-lived – the reason behind which many assume had to do with his problematic past and her fans being against him- she ended up writing most of her album for him, admitting to having intense feelings for him in a relationship that can be labeled as tumultuous but passionate.
