While promoting her new album, Demi Lovato revisited her previous hits on ‘The Howard Stern Show‘, revealing that her 2015 hit song ‘Cool For The Summer‘ was about her relationship with famous women. The artist then told Stern, “I actually released it before I came out as bisexual at the time.” The host asked if she was warned against it by her management team, but Lovato denied that idea. “I just grew up in a Christian home and was kind of traumatized in that area,” she said.

However, the ‘Heart Attack‘ singer explained that when she came out as bi to her parents, they were both fine with it. “My dad was like ‘Yeah, you have a song called Cool for the Summer,'” laughed Lovato. Her mother commented, “She was like, I just want you to be happy.” Lovato added that “I’d built it up in my head”.

When asked the name of the female celebrity, the singer immediately denied saying that the woman still remains unaware that she inspired Lovato to create the song.

Demi Lovato refused to share exactly who it was as she said, “I’m in a relationship now and I feel like that would be inappropriate.” After Stern asked if that relationship had ever been public, Lovato laughed and commented: “People are going to wonder now.”

The Grammy-nominated singer opened up about her decision to tell the public about her near-fatal drug overdose in 2018. Demi Lovato said, “Something that I deal with now is anxiety. I’ve dealt with depression, I’ve dealt with addiction. I kind of have a checklist and I’ve just kind of knocked them all off.”

The ‘Sorry Not Sorry‘ singer continued, “There have been times where I’ve dealt with depression where I have had suicidal ideations. It’s something that I’ve struggled with since I was very young. And it’s something that I can still struggle with if I don’t stay on top of it.”

Demi Lovato also acknowledged that taking breaks from social media was critical and how the Young Hollywood era she grew up in played a factor in her mental health condition at the time. Lovato shared, “It got to a point where I realized I can’t read anything because if I read positive comments it feeds my ego. And if I read negative comments it damages my ego. Ultimately, I don’t want to navigate out of ego at all.” Currently, Lovato admits that things are not perfect, but she is in a really good place.
