It’s good news for “Heartstopper” fans. Your favorites – Charlie and Nick – will be back for a second and third season of the hit Netflix show. The streamer confirmed the development. The LGBTQ-based webcomic follows the relationship between two British teens – Charlie and Nick. When Charlie falls for Nick, he thinks there’s no chance that they could be together. But love finds a way.
‘Heartstopper’: An Instant Sucess
The series was launched in April and took no time to become popular. The young adult show was inspired by the webcomic and graphic novel by series creator Alice Oseman. It has ranked in Netflix’s top ten list in an impressive 54 countries. The stars of the show are Kit Connor and Joe Locke.
The success of the series has also boosted the weekly book sales of Azman’s source material. Volume one of the book is currently holding the top spot on the US YA Fiction list. The New York Times featured the book in its bestsellers chart. The series also got high critical acclaim. It holds a score of 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is very rare.
Earlier this month, Kit, who plays Nick, told Variety how important the show isto him. “To have a show where you see queer people being happy and being together and united as a group, I think there’s something really beautiful about that,” he said. “I think that shows like ‘Euphoria’ that are very queer are still very much sort of adult in many ways because they are very dark and gritty. I think it’s really important to have a show that is just portraying queer love and queer beauty,” he said.
Joe Locke, who plays Charlie, said he’d love to see Jennifer Coolidge doing a cameo in the second season. “Jennifer Coolidge should play my grandmother,” he said. “That would be so cool. I love her. She’s amazing. I also want a scene with Nick’s mom so I can work with Olivia Colman,” he said.
