‘House Of Dragon‘ has been keeping its fans at the edge of their seats with anticipation about where the story is headed. The most highlighted character right now on the show is Ewan Mitchell’s Aemond Targaryen, who is bringing to the screens a perfect blend of cunning and vulnerable.
Though the show is filled with several historical and fantastical references, Mitchell’s inspiration behind his character’s portrayal is far from what the show brings to the screen. The actor revealed that his portrayal of Aemond Targaryen has drawn heavy inspiration from Michel Mann’s 1995 film ‘Heat‘. Here’s what he said.

Aemond Had A Little Essence Of Michael Mann’s Character From’ Heat’
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond Targaryen on ‘House of the Dragon‘ revealed that his character was drawn from Michael Mann’s character in the film ‘Heat’. Mitchell said that he name-checked the movie while discussing the humiliations done to Aemond during season 2, episode 3.
After several instances of humiliation, Aemond built some tall walls around him with the sole motive of protecting himself, consequentially turning into a cunning character. Mann’s character from the film ‘Heat‘, Neil, is also quite similar.
“There’s this line from Michael Mann’s Heat that I love. Robert De Niro’s character says, ‘Never get attached to someone you’re not prepared to walk out on in 30 seconds flat when you feel the heat around the corner,” Mitchell said during the interview.
He continued, “De Niro’s character lives by that, it helps him maneuver without getting caught by the police. Aemond has a very similar code in that he doesn’t want to be caught and feel like the kid that he once was in season one — that neglected, bullied boy.”

Aemond’s Character From ‘House Of The Dragon’ Is Quite Similar To Neil From ‘Heat’
‘Heat‘ was released three decades ago and it’s still remains source of inspiration for several actors. As Ewan Mitchell revealed, him taking inspiration from the film has led to many similarities between his character Aemond and Neil from ‘Heat‘.
On ‘House of the Dragon’ Aemond has the same ideologies and thinking as Neil. Both characters have no attachments to the outside world except for their families. Just like Aemond, Neil also goes against his principles by falling in love with a girl called Eady and can go to any extent for her in the film.
But Neil chooses to abandon the girl for his own sake and chooses to die by gunfire. While Aemond has not reached there yet, his fate is also similarly described in George R.R. Martin’s book ‘Fire & Blood’.
Though the ultimate end of the show shall be decided in the ‘Dance Of Dragons‘, the warfare is getting deadlier as the show progresses with more and more bloodshed.
