“He’s Put It All Out There”: A US Judge Hears Lawsuit Against Prince Harry’s Visa After His Drug Confessions In ‘Spare’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s attainment of privacy seems impossible. The couple decided to leave the royal family in 2020 due to the family’s ill-treatment and the media’s intrusion. Since they moved to the USA, Harry and Meghan have been chronicling their struggles while maligning the image of the family. They put many bombshell confessions and sensitive information out, which has now put them in trouble!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to have lost their narrative due to the constant barrage of victimization. They have strained their relationship with the royal family since the tell-all Oprah interview. But the Netflix docuseries ‘Harry & Meghan’ made matters worse for the couple. However, Harry’s memoir, ‘Spare,’ has jeopardized his citizenship along with his relationship with his family. A think tank has issued a lawsuit over his visa application after the Duke’s drug confessions. Now, the Washington, DC, court is hearing the case.

The US migration has complicated things for Prince Harry. Harry moved to the States with his wife, Meghan Markle, after stepping back from their royal duties. They signed various deals across various media. In his memoir, he confessed that he has tried a variety of hard drugs, including cocaine and mushrooms.

A conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, had filed a lawsuit against the Department of Home Security (DHS). The think tank filed for the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to know the visa application status of Prince Harry after the drug confessions. The authorities can bar Harry’s visa after he confesses to taking Class-I drugs in the country.

On June 6, 2023, the Washington, DC, court started the hearing on the case. A foreign analyst at the Heritage Foundation, Nile Gardiner, told the media, “A key factor here has been Prince Harry’s memoir and his revelations about his own drug use. He’s put it all out there.”

Nile continued, “Let’s see whether that exactly matches what he put on his immigration application because, if it doesn’t, that’s perjury; that’s a criminal offense. Everyone should be held to account before the law here. No one should be treated any differently.” The federal judge has asked the US government to respond to the think tank’s claims about Harry’s drug confessions and how he lied while filing for a US visa.

The Heritage Foundation filed a lawsuit against the DHS on May 1, 2023, which read, “The media coverage has surfaced the question of whether DHS’s decision to admit the Duke of Sussex into the United States should be reconsidered in light of the Duke of Sussex’s most recent admissions to the essential elements of numerous drug offenses both here and abroad in his 2023 memoir, Spare.”

During the hearing, the Heritage Foundation’s lawyer, Sam Dewey, argued, “This is obviously a case about the Duke of Sussex. What this case is truly about is the DHS and the DHS’ compliance with the law.”

He cited a quote from an article where Alberto Benítez, director of George Washington University’s immigration clinic, said, “He would have been asked [about drug use]. If he was truthful in his answers, he should have been denied.”

John Bardo, the Department of Home Security’s lawyer, said, “The plaintiff is not entitled to any records, and it is mainly because a person’s visa status is confidential.” The judge, Carl Nichols, has asked the defendant to respond to the claims until June 13, 2023.
