Jill Biden Fondly Recalls The Last Tea Party With Queen Elizabeth In Upcoming Book About King Charles

The British Royal Family is never off the hook when it comes to drama. As if the media is not enough, the royal family members often themselves serve controversial content on a platter. Last year, Prince Harry stirred a lot of controversy with the release of his memoir ‘Spare’. As if his relationship with the royals wasn’t already deterred enough, he went on to spill secrets in the book that made the situation even worse.

While the royal family is still largely facing the repercussions of the release of Harry’s memoir, the biography of King Charles, ‘The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy‘ is set to be released soon. Written by royal biographer Robert Hardman, the book is highly anticipated. One of the elements that the book has covered is First Lady Jill Biden‘s recollection of the meeting she had with Queen Elizabeth.

First Lady Jill Biden has paid a touching tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II in royal biographer Robert Hardman’s upcoming book, ‘The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy‘. Dr. Jill Biden recounts the time when President Joe Biden and herself “shared a cup of tea with Her Majesty at Windsor Castle in June 2021″ in the book.

Set to be released on January 18, the book details the meeting from Jill Biden’s perspective wherein she preserves it as a cherished memory with the late Queen. Just a year after the party, the Bidens returned to pay tribute at the Queen’s funeral after she died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.

The first lady emphasizes how the private tea party was just a part of the president’s state visit, but went on to become a farewell unknowingly as it was the last time that the Bidens met with the Queen. The meeting holds significance as it thus marked the end of an era for the celebrated connections between the United States and the United Kingdom.

Sharing some intimate details of the tea party, Dr. Jill Biden narrates the afternoon with the Queen. She recalls how the Queen was insistent on serving tea herself, as they discussed American politics and various events with her guests.

For the Bidens, a cherished memory would always be tea with the Queen at Windsor Castle in the year before her death. ‘We went up to her apartment. And I loved her sense of independence,” the book says. “She had a big teapot. And Joe said to her: ‘Here, let me help you.’ The Queen had been quite insistent, however. ‘No, no, no. You sit,’ she told the president. ‘I will serve you,’” it adds, from Jill Biden’s perspective.

The Bidens also appreciate the Queen’s curiosity in the book, as she turned the tea party into what Dr. Biden fondly describes as every “American’s ideal image of a quintessential British tea party”. They mention how it was complete with Queen’s iconic corgis making an appearance.

‘Here she was with this big teapot pouring tea and we had the best time because she has such a sense of curiosity,’ Dr Biden recalls. ‘She asked all about American politics and what was going on and [the president’s] perceptions of different people and different events.’ It was, she reflects fondly, every American’s ‘picture’ of a quintessential British tea party, especially when ‘her little dogs came in,’” an except from Hardman’s book reads.

The First Lady also reflects on the Queen’s impact on their lives. “We all grew up with the Queen. She was such a big part of our lives. She was just always there and felt like she always would be – a really beautiful, spectacular, amazing woman,” she says.

Robert Hardman’s book, ‘The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, will offer its readers an in-depth look at the new king’s evolution from Prince of Wales to King Charles III. Besides, it is also anticipated to lay forth the drama and significance of the past year in the modern monarchy.
