Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be preparing for one of their biggest family changes since leaving royal life behind. Six years after stepping back as royals, the couple is reportedly moving back to the United Kingdom with their children.
The reported return would also bring their children much closer to the royal family after years of growing up primarily in the United States.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Are Reportedly Moving Back To The U.K.

Multiple outlets report that Harry and Meghan plan to relocate to the U.K. with Archie and Lilibet later this month. Rather than returning to a royal property, the Sussex family will reportedly settle into a non-royal residence and remain in Britain for an extended period. Archie and Lilibet are also expected to enroll in a U.K. school beginning in September.

The move apparently does not mean the Sussexes are completely leaving their California life behind. Harry and Meghan reportedly plan to keep their Montecito home, where they have lived since moving to the United States. They are also expected to retain their vacation property in Portugal.
No changes to Harry and Meghan’s roles within the royal family are currently expected either. The couple reportedly intends to continue pursuing their individual projects and businesses. Living in Britain would allow Harry to spend more time working with his U.K.-based charities, including WellChild and Scotty’s Little Soldiers. Meghan is expected to continue operating her lifestyle brand, As Ever, while living in the U.K.
King Charles Reportedly Learned About The Sussexes’ Plans This Week

King Charles got information about the couple’s plans earlier this week. The development comes after the monarch met Archie and Lilibet during the Sussex family’s visit to England in July. The visit also marked a major step for Harry and his father, as the family reunited with the King for the first time in four years.

A permanent or extended return once seemed extremely unlikely because Harry repeatedly expressed concerns about bringing Meghan and their children to Britain. Security remained one of the biggest issues after the court ruled that his family would not receive additional security protection.
Harry made his position especially clear during a 2025 BBC interview following the court decision. “I can’t see a world where I would be bringing my wife and kids back to the U.K.,” he shared. “And the things that they’re going to miss is well, everything. I love my country. I always have, despite what some people in that country have done.”
Despite his security concerns, Harry never hid how much he missed Britain or how disappointed he felt that Archie and Lilibet could not experience more of their father’s homeland. “I miss the U.K.,” Harry emphasized. “I miss parts of the U.K. of course I do. And I think that it’s quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”
The reported relocation would therefore represent far more than a change of address for the Sussexes. Archie and Lilibet would begin attending school in their father’s home country, Harry would regain easier access to his British charities, and the entire family would live much closer to King Charles and the wider royal family.
