Ever since this one ‘The Boys’ character showed her true abilities, it has been a strong theory in the fandom that Marie Moreau is secretly the key to defeating Homelander once and for all. Her blood-bending powers can literally tear him apart from the inside.
But ‘The Boys’ creator, Eric Kripke, has finally addressed the theory and totally debunked it by revealing why it makes no sense for Marie to kill Homelander.
‘The Boys’ Boss Explains The Real Reason Marie Moreau Can’t Stop Homelander

Showrunner Eric Kripke defended that decision during a recent interview with TVLine. He addressed the fan question that has followed Marie since ‘Gen V’ revealed the true scale of her powers.

Kripke said, “She has all of this power, and everyone online is like, ‘Well, why doesn’t she just go take on Homelander?’. I’m like, ‘She’s a 19-year-old kid!. She has no idea how to wield any of it in any sort of responsible, controlled way’. Were there to be another season of ‘Gen V,’ that would be her training-with-Yoda season.”
He also stressed that Marie’s strength does not make her automatically ready for every battle. Kripke added, “The fact that she’s super powerful, which she is, does not mean she’s automatically ready for every single conflict, much less one as big as Homelander. It could be quite dangerous and destructive.”
“She’s not Keanu at the end of ‘The Matrix’, because, based on the next couple of Matrixes, it’s not great for drama.” Kripke once told Variety, “You want a character who’s really struggling and growing, especially a kid like Marie. So even though she has a lot of raw power, she has to learn how to control it.”
Marie Moreau Was Supposed To Continue Evolving In ‘Gen V’

During the same conversation, Kripke revealed what ‘Gen V’ Season 3 would have explored if the spin-off had continued. According to him, the third chapter would have followed Marie as she tried to understand and control her emotionally charged abilities. He concluded, “That would [have been] her training-with-Yoda season where she really learns how to take the next step.”
In Case You Missed It: ‘The Boys’ Franchise Already Has The Perfect Way To Continue ‘Gen V’s Story
The explanation makes the situation more complicated. On one hand, Kripke’s point does not fully line up with what ‘Gen V’ Season 2 already showed. Much of that season focused on Marie learning to control her powers. So, some fans may feel the main series has walked back part of her growth.
At the same time, Kripke’s argument works better when it comes to actual battle tactics. Homelander has years of experience, brutal instincts, and no hesitation when it comes to violence. Even if Marie has god-tier potential, a one-on-one fight against Homelander could still go wrong if she cannot control the consequences of her abilities.
There is also a practical storytelling issue here. ‘Gen V’ reportedly had half or less of the main series’ viewership, which likely played a role in its cancellation. Because of that, suddenly bringing Marie into ‘The Boys‘ finale as the one Supe powerful enough to defeat Homelander could feel disorienting for viewers who only follow the main show.
The same problem applies if Marie suddenly starts changing the stakes of the finale in a major way. Even if her powers allow something like that, the narrative may not support such a huge turn this late. ‘The Boys‘ has built its final conflict around its core characters. So, handing the biggest moment to a spin-off lead could weaken the emotional payoff.
Still, Marie’s appearance may not be meaningless. The best outcome now may be that she contributes to the fight in a smaller but important way.
