The world of ‘Interview with the Vampire‘ is about to get even darker and stranger. While fans are already preparing for the arrival of Akasha in season three, showrunner Rolin Jones has started teasing storylines that go far beyond glam-rock vampires and bloody romance.
In fact, he is already thinking about some of the wildest material from Anne Rice’s later books, including the infamous storyline where Lestat drinks the blood of Jesus Christ.
Rolin Jones Already Has Long-Term Plans For Lestat’s Story in ‘Interview with the Vampire’

Season three of ‘Interview with the Vampire‘ will finally introduce Akasha, the Queen of the Damned. The character remains one of the most powerful and dangerous figures in Anne Rice’s vampire mythology, and according to Rolin Jones, viewers are only about to see the beginning of her impact.
Although Akasha will appear in the upcoming season, Jones hinted that her larger storyline may not fully unfold unless the show earns another season. Speaking to Polygon, he explained, “It’s just a taste of a level of ferocity and intelligent rage that is at a precipice ready to strike into the show and alter it.” He continued teasing the scale of her arrival by adding, “You will feel a landscape-changing energy from her.”
The statement makes clear that Jones does not view season three as the series’ endgame. Instead, he seems eager to continue adapting Anne Rice’s sprawling mythology far beyond Akasha’s introduction. While Akasha’s storyline already sounds chaotic enough, Jones admitted that he wants to go even further into Anne Rice’s stranger material. Specifically, he hopes the series eventually adapts ‘Memnoch the Devil‘, the fifth installment in ‘The Vampire Chronicles‘.
The Showrunner Wants To Reach The Infamous Lestat-And-Jesus Storyline

The novel follows Lestat as he journeys through heaven and hell alongside the devil. During that surreal adventure, Jesus Christ offers Lestat his blood to drink. The moment became one of the most controversial and talked-about scenes in Anne Rice’s entire vampire saga. And Jones clearly wants the show to embrace that same fearless energy.

The adaptation could become even more intense considering the rules established in Anne Rice’s vampire universe. In the original novels, vampires cannot physically engage in s*x, so blood-drinking becomes their equivalent of intimacy. This detail adds another layer to the already shocking Lestat-and-Jesus storyline. It will undoubtedly become one of television’s boldest supernatural moments if adapted.
Jones also spoke about why Anne Rice’s more spiritual and unusual stories matter so much to him creatively. While discussing her books, he praised the emotional honesty behind her writing and the deeply personal themes woven into her later work. He said, “It’s always a humbling experience to read her books because there’s so much raw gold in there. And there’s so much thoughtful prose, and you can feel what Anne is going through as an individual, as a human, while she’s writing those things.”
At the time Anne Rice wrote ‘Memnoch the Devil‘, she was going through a major personal transformation. The author had started moving away from atheism and reconnecting with the Catholic Church. That spiritual journey heavily influenced the novel’s themes. The book explores its own strange interpretations of God, the devil, heaven, and hell.
Jones made it clear that he believes those bizarre and deeply religious elements remain essential to Anne Rice’s identity. Explaining why he wants the show to embrace those strange storylines instead of avoiding them, he said, “If you didn’t grab one or two of the totally psychotic, weird, wild things, you’d be missing out on what makes her as an artist, singular.”
