Sydney Sweeney has finally revealed why she thinks Cassie Howard’s controversial journey in ‘Euphoria‘ is the right one for the character, even though she personally doesn’t agree with many of her decisions.
With the HBO drama set for a comeback, fans have been speculating about Cassie’s new chapter. The Onlyfans plot is somewhat unexpected. However, Sweeney says it’s fitting for Cassie’s emotional issues that have plagued her for years.
Sydney Sweeney Says Cassie’s Final Arc Fits Her Character Perfectly

In a conversation with Vanity Fair, Sweeney discussed how she felt Cassie’s emotional driving forces throughout the series. The actress says that ever since she was a little girl, Cassie has needed love and acceptance. She has always tied her self-worth to how people see her.

“From the very beginning, you can see that Cassie has this need to be loved. She has a need to be validated by other people. She doesn’t know how to love herself unless someone else loves her,” she shared. For Sweeney, the character’s choice to go public online is more about being seen, rather than the platform itself.
The recognition and attention that come with being known by a larger audience draw Cassie into a new world, one that she has not previously known. “I think she was more excited by the idea of all these people loving her and knowing who she is and feeling like her world isn’t small.”
It was a sad but logical progression for a character who has been seeking acceptance for years from the wrong sources. Although some may not like Cassie and her choices, Sweeney feels that the decisions are a reflection of who Cassie is.

When talking about the plot, Sweeney was clear that she doesn’t have a lot of empathy for Cassie’s choices. “Do I agree with all of Cassie’s decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, of course not. But I’m an actor, and that’s my job.”

The actress said she and creator Sam Levinson had extensive discussions about the more risqué content of the season. “He sent me all the scripts, and it already had all of Cassie’s scenes in it, the OnlyFans scenes, and he called me afterwards, and he was talking about it, and we were talking through it all,” she added.
“He asked me how I felt about it, and I told him, ‘Look, I’m playing a character.’” Levinson has repeatedly commended Sweeney’s dedication, dubbing her a fearless performer who takes on challenging material. Whether fans embrace or reject Cassie’s latest transformation, one thing is clear: Sweeney remained committed.
