Will Disney+ Series ‘Willow’ Return For The Second Season?

Willow is an American adventure fantasy TV series that premiered on Disney Plus. The show released on November 30, 2022. The series was produced by Imagine Entertainment and Lucas Film. ‘Willow’ is directed by Ron Howard, Stephen Woolfenden, Debs Paterson, Jamie Childs, and Philippa Lowthorpe. The show is based on the 1988 movie ‘Willow’ and also serves as a sequel to the movie. The movie was a commercial success and the series was set to follow the events that take place after the movie. The show stars Warwick Davis, Ruby Cruz, and Ellie Bamber in addition to stars like Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Erin Kellyman.

The story follows the events 20 years after the movie’s end where Queen Bavmorda is defeated. No, ‘Willow’ will not be returning for a second season. The reps for Disney Plus have confirmed that the fantasy drama won’t be getting a second season. Deadline reported that there would be no second season of ‘Willow’, Disney’s live-action original series based on the 1988 fantasy film directed by Ron Howard.

The executives at Disney did not elaborate on why the series was canceled after the first season. But people believe that it was because of the poor reception of the show. The show received only a 53% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb.

Many top insiders believe that the show failed because it tried to target the wrong demographic. The original movie was released in 1988, 34 years before the release of the show. Rather than targeting the people who enjoyed the movie back then, the show was made for teenagers who didn’t even know about the movie’s existence. The tone and the theme of the show are just like that of a cheesy teenage show. But with younger audience turning their backs on these kinds of shows for something with more substance, insiders felt that the failure of the show was imminent.

The story starts twenty years after the end of the movie. The movie ‘Willow’ finally ends with the defeat of Queen Bavmorda. Subsequently, Willow gets a magical book that helps him on his quest to become the best sorcerer. Twenty years later, in a world that is filled with fantastical beings and magical powers, a group of different individuals goes on a journey together on one of the toughest challenges ever.

The daughter of Queen Sorsha, Princess Kit Tanthalos sets in motion a plan to save her brother Prince Airk from the Gales. Kit and her unlikely team go on a journey to search for Willow who could help them find Airk and save him from the Gales. The group of heroes departs “beyond the border of our planet to find Airk” after Willow agrees to join their conquest.

The group is also joined by Elora Danan who is in love with Airk. She disguises herself as a kitchen maid named Dove. Kit is also joined by Jade who is the general’s daughter and Kit’s love interest. The series adds brand-new characters to the magical world of fairy queens and Eborsisk monsters with two heads.
