“She Was Always Writing Poetry”: Taylor Swift’s Elementary School Teachers Open Up About Her Passion For Music Since Childhood

Taylor Swift has yet again made a powerful comeback to the headlines with her recently released album ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘. While she was already in a lot of limelight for her Eras Tour as well as her ongoing relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce, the album has brought a whole new wave of fame for the megastar.

Her latest album is a poetic ode to some of her most troubling relationships with her ex-boyfriends Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy. Taylor Swift’s love for music is not something that took shape over time; it has always been there, since her childhood days. CBS Philadelphia recently caught up with two of Swift’s elementary school teachers, who spoke about the early days of the Grammy-winning artist’s life when she was just beginning to get a hold of music.

Barbara Kolvek, Swift’s elementary school music teacher, recalled about the pop sensation’s very evident passion for music. Kolvek revealed that Swift had expressed her desire to become a singer in second grade. “She always was writing poetry — always — even in music class, even when she shouldn’t,” Kolvek said, recalling how she gave Swift her first singing solo.

Another one of Swift’s teachers, Heather Brown, who taught her in the third grade, also spoke fondly of Swift’s musical and poetic qualities that often drew people towards her. “You always remember every student from the quality they have. Taylor’s quality was just being she was one of those students where people just drew to,”  Brown said, adding that she still sends her favorite student Taylor, who has now grown to be a megastar, a Christmas card every year.

Taylor Swift’s latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Departmentis seemingly a superhit as it has already shattered Spotify records. While there was already some heavy anticipation around the release of her album, the response it continues to get from fans worldwide has solidified the pop sensation’s status as one of the most influential artists of our time.

With over 300 million streams and the most-streamed song in a single day, Swift’s impact on the music industry is undeniable. In an Instagram post celebrating her album’s release, the pop queen described it as “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions, and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”

This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted,” Swift further wrote, adding, “And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”
