Why Did Ellen Pompeo And Patrick Dempsey Exit?
Patrick Dempsey exited the show in 2015. He was told to have become more dreamy on set. “There were HR issues,” producer James D. Parriott. “It wasn’t sexual in any way. (Dempsey) sort of was terrorizing the set. Some cast members had all sorts of PTSD with him. He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people,” he was quoted in a book on the series.
“Dempsy didn’t like the inconvenience of coming in every day and working. He and (show creator) Shonda (Rhimes) were at each other’s throats,” Parriott detailed the tension that ran in the series set. Dempsey did find it a very hectic schedule as he was working for about 15 hours. He did admit that he felt burnt out. Thus his character was killed off in the series
Ellen Pompeo will leave her role as Meredith Grey early next year. With the last episode of the 19th season, the titular character will be off the show. But it is confirmed that she will return to the series as the narrator and executive producer.
