In Jennifer Lopez’s recent documentary ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’, the two stars disclosed that they broke up just three days before their scheduled wedding in 2003. The couple had an elaborate ceremony planned, but the pressure became too much for them to handle.

In the documentary, Lopez can be seen explaining to a group of people, “Ben and I, we broke up three days before our wedding. We had a big wedding planned — 14 ushers and bridesmaids, and three days before we just crumbled under the pressure.”

Affleck also agrees with his wife, as he tells the cameras, “When Jen and I broke up before, the catalyst for that was the massive amount of scrutiny around our private life.”

The documentary ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told‘ is the second in line after Jennifer Lopez released her first documentary ‘This Is Me… Nowearlier last year. Her latest documentary explores the impact of Lopez’s breakup with Affleck had on the singer’s emotional well-being.

Dave Meyers, who directed Jennifer Lopez’s first documentary, has also featured in ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’ as he sheds light on Lopez’s condition after her breakup. Meyers also directed Lopez’s I’m Real‘ music video in 2001.

When she and Ben first broke up, it was catastrophic to her constitution, everything that she wanted from what she understood love to be,” Meyers recalls. “For that to not work, for the pressures to break it apart, it just spun her out,” he adds.

Lopez also agrees with him. “For all those years it was really hard, because I didn’t just feel like I lost the love of my life, I felt like I lost the best friend that I ever had,” Lopez says. “And I couldn’t talk for so many years, and that was the hardest part,” she adds.

Ben Affleck is also seen acknowledging the pain that their breakup caused both of them. In a conversation in the documentary, Affleck asks Lopez if she forgave him. “I think for us to move on from that, we have to forgive it, forgive each other. Do you forgive me?” he asks.

She responds with a smile but later elaborates on those feelings. “That heartbreak set both of us on a course to figuring ourselves out and to being better people.”

Do you think you’ve forgiven me all the way?” he asks again. “Yeah, I think I’ve forgiven you all the way,” she says. “I think I need to forgive myself some things,” the singer adds.

After a rough patch in their love story, the couple rekindled their romance in 2021. Lopez said she has tried to depict their love story in her song ‘This Is Me… Now’ and hopes that people will “believe that love exists” after understanding her story.

Returning to the cameras, Lopez says that she is proud of where she is today. “I feel like I came out the other side. I’ve made it through. I’ve made something good of my life. I’m proud of that,” Lopez tells the cameras.

But one of the parts of that was admitting to myself you’re not perfect, you’re not completely whole. And you know what? Something that’s worn and older and broken like a nice leather jacket or an old pair of boots is really beautiful. And kind of embracing the beauty of the scars that we pick up along the way,” she adds.

The documentary captures the couple’s journey full of challenges but also love. ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told‘ is is now streaming on Prime Video.
