‘Fast & Furious‘ is one of the most successful action film franchises in the world. The films are mostly centered on heists and street racing. The franchise began with the release of the first movie called ‘The Fast and the Furious‘ in 2001. The movies have an ensemble cast with many regular faces such as Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michele Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, and more.
Nine films from the franchise have already been released and have proven to be a commercial success. The tenth film from the franchise titled ‘Fast X‘ which released in 2023. A spin-off featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters has also been released. The combined gross box office collection for the franchise is more than $6 billion and is the eighth highest-grossing movie franchise. Many toys and video games based on the franchise have also been developed. But why Johnson did not return for ‘Fast X‘?
‘Fast X’: Why Dwayne Johnson Refused To Return
When the tenth movie of the series ‘Fast X‘ was announced, everyone was expecting the return of the main cast. However, Dwayne Johnson shocked the fans by announcing that he would not be joining the movie as well as the further planned movies. Fans all over the world were taken aback by the announcement. Vin Diesel even posted on his Instagram, requesting Johnson to join the cast for future movies. But the actor was adamant about not returning.
He even said that he had talked to Diesel privately about not joining the future films of the franchise. He also added in an interview with CNN, “Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding.” Johnson’s refusal to return is supposed to be the feud between him and Diesel which started in 2016.

The Cast Of ‘Fast X’
Even though Dwayne Johnson didn’t reprise his role as Luke Hobbs, many others returned to play their characters. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, and Nathalie Emmanuel delighted fans by reprising their roles of Dominic Toretto, Letty Ortiz, Roman Pearce, Tej Parker, and Ramsey, respectively.
Joining the star cast were actors like Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Daniela Melchior, and Alan Ritchson. Momoa portrays the role of Dante who is touted to be the most dangerous villain of the series. Brie Larson plays Tess who helps Dom’s crew. Rita Moreno plays the grandmother of Dom, Mia, and Jakob. Alan Ritchson takes on the role of Mr. Nobody’s new leader. Hence, even though Luke Hobbs doesn’t return to the franchise, there is still a big ensemble cast staying true to the soul of ‘Fast‘ films.
