Smith shocked the entire world when he went on stage at this year’s Oscar and slapped the host Chris Rock after the latter joked about his wife’s baldness.

He recently appeared on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, his first late-night show appearance after the incident. The ‘Hancock‘ actor shared his little nephew’s reaction to the slap.

I was gone. That was a rage that had been bottled for a really long time. My nephew is nine. He is the sweetest little boy. We came home“, Smith recalled.

He continued, “He had stayed up late to see his uncle Will and we are sitting in my kitchen and he is on my lap and he is holding the Oscar and he is just like, ‘Why did you hit that man, Uncle Will?’ Damn it. Why are you trying to Oprah me?

In a recent interview, Smith also talked about the potential impact his upcoming film ‘Emancipation‘ might have because of the Oscar slap.

“I completely understand, if someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready. My deepest concern is my team – Antoine has done what I think is the greatest work of his entire career,” he said.

Smith further added: “The people on this team have done some of the best work of their entire careers, and my deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalize my team. At this point, that’s what I’m working for.”

“I’m hoping that the material – the power of the film, the timeliness of the story – I’m hoping that the good that can be done would open people’s hearts at a minimum to see and recognize and support the incredible artists in and around this film.”
