Rory McIlroy Breaks Down His Viral Devil Wears Prada 2 Debut

Rory McIlroy is opening up about how he and his wife, Erica Stoll, landed a surprise cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

During an appearance on the New Heights podcast on May 6, McIlroy revealed that the opportunity came after director David Frankel learned about the golfer’s love for the original The Devil Wears Prada.

McIlroy told hosts Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce that his appearance in the film “was so random,” explaining that it all stemmed from comments he made after winning The Players Championship last year.

“I won The Players’ Championship last year and they asked me afterwards, ‘What did you do last night to prepare?’ I said, ‘I had dinner and got back to the room and I watched The Devil Wears Prada,’ ” McIlroy said.

After hearing the story, Frankel and the film’s team reportedly reached out to gauge his interest in making a cameo appearance. McIlroy said he later discussed the opportunity with Stoll before deciding to take part.

“The director, David Frankel, somehow got wind of it, so the team reached out and said, ‘Look, Dave was wondering if you’d want to do some sort of cameo,’ ” McIlroy explained. “I said to my wife Erica, ‘Eh, what do you think?’ and she’s like, ‘Yeah, absolutely!’ ”

McIlroy added that he then asked producers whether Stoll could join him on screen as part of the cameo. According to the golfer, the production team quickly agreed.

The couple later traveled to New York City to film the scene, with McIlroy describing the shoot as “the most unbelievable experience” during his conversation with the Kelce brothers.

Despite now appearing in both The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Happy Gilmore 2, the golfer brushed aside any suggestion that he could pursue acting full-time. The Irishman said, “I am not a movie star. If you watch me act, you can tell I am not a movie star.”

Rory McIlroy also discussed his cameo in Happy Gilmore 2, where he appeared alongside Adam Sandler. He called the experience “very cool” and described Sandler as “the coolest guy alive.”

Despite the recent film appearances, McIlroy made clear that he does not plan to shift away from professional golf. The 37-year-old recently added another major milestone to his career by winning The Masters Tournament.
