Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt‘s upcoming action-comedy ‘The Fall Guy‘ has been hogging the headlines with its lead actors promoting the film in all sorts of graceful as well as goofy ways possible. While the film is already generating buzz ahead of its theatrical release, not all of it is positive.
A dialogue from the action-packed film has stirred controversy among viewers even before the film hit the screens. A character from the film has apparently made a remark against the infamous Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial, that is being criticized by many. Here’s what the controversy is about.
‘The Fall Guy’ Makes A Comedic Remark Against Johnny Depp And Amber Heard’s Domestic Violence Legal Battle
‘The Fall Guy‘ has been in the headlines lately, and the anticipation around its release is heavy among the fans of the Ryan Gosling starrer film. Written by Drew Pearce, the film stars Hannah Waddingham as Gail Meyer alongside the lead characters played by Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
In a particular scene in the film, Waddingham’s character makes a reference to the relationship between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in what appeared to be a comedic dialogue. The film revolves around the story of an actor and a director, with a film set being the backdrop of most scenes.
In one such scene, Waddingham’s character Gail, an executive producer of the film, enters a visibly disheveled film set and finds it appalling. Referring to the chaos on the set, she says to director Jody Moreno, played by Emily Blunt, “It’s like Amber and Johnny were just in here.”
The dialogue has not been received well by many viewers who contend that making a humorous comment on a matter as sensitive as domestic violence is acceptable.

Internet Slams The Fall Guy For Cheap Comment On Johnny Depp And Amber Heard’s Messy Marriage
Viewers have expressed their disappointment over the dialogue referring to the ex-couple in the film. Many comments on social media labeled the joke in the film as “distasteful” and “cheap“. “This is so disappointing,” one user wrote in the comments section of a post featuring Waddingham’s dialogue in the film on X .
“it’s 2024, why are we writing these kinds of lines into movies?” another one asked. A fourth one said it is “cheap” and that they “would love to ask the writer what he thinks is so funny about domestic violence…”
The controversial dialogue refers to the alleged domestic violence in the ex-couple’s messy marriage and the infamous divorce trial that followed. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s marriage lasted only 15 months after the couple tied the knot in 2015. In 2019, Amber Heard made allegations of domestic violence against Depp and the case was dragged to the court for a long while.
The public legal battle that followed included accusations from both sides ranging from physical, emotional, and mental abuse against each other. After a long, publicized legal battle, Depp eventually won a defamation case against Heard, while she was awarded damages in her own countersuit.
Meanwhile, ‘The Fall Guy‘ is set for release on Friday, May 3.
