Nicki Minaj Creates History At The EMAs. Here’s How

MTV EMAs 2023 did not have a physical ceremony about the growing war tension between Israel and the Palestinian militant group, Hamas. However, on November 5, 2023, the organizers announced the winners of the 2023 edition of the European Music Awards. Taylor Swift won big with three awards in her bag, but the rap queen, Nicki Minaj, stole the show!

Nicki Minaj is ramping up the release of part two of her 2010 mega-hit album ‘Pink Friday’. When the album was released, it debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, becoming the second-highest best-selling act after a decade of Lauryn Hill’s ‘Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’. While the hype for the second part of her much-loved album is great, she has achieved the milestone of becoming the only female rapper in the history of MTV EMAs to win the coveted ‘Best US Act’ award.

The years 2022 and 2023 have been filled with features from Nicki Minaj, as she is claiming new positions week after week on Billboard 200. She has collaborated with many rising and upcoming artists, including Lil Baby, Ice Spice, Coi Leray, and others. The queen of rap has many feathers on her cap, and recently a new one was added as she created history at the non-televised MTV EMAs 2023.

During the MTV European Music Awards, Nicki Minaj was nominated in three categories—‘Best Artist,’ ‘Best Hip Hop’, and ‘Best US Act’. While Taylor Swift took home the ‘Best Artist’ trophy, her favorite Saggitarius won the other two awards.

But, with the ‘Best US Act’ win, she created history by becoming the first female rapper to win the coveted trophy. In 2022, Billie Eilish took the trophy home. The win also took Nicki by surprise as she reacted to the win on X, writing, “WHAT?!?!!!!!!”

Nicki Minaj has created great hype around the ‘Pink Friday 2’ release. She has been doing live video chats with Barbz and taking their suggestions on releasing songs and features on the album. Nicki debuted ‘Big Difference’ during the MTV VMAs 2023 performance. During a recent live chat, she announced a new track titled ‘Let Me Calm Down’, asking Barbz who she should feature on the track.

However, Nicki Minaj has postponed the release of ‘Pink Friday 2’, which she has been working on for the last five years, twice. Earlier, she announced that she would release the album on October 20, 2023, and then postponed it to November 17, but now, the ‘Megatron’ rapper will release it on her birthday, December 8, 2023. She cited writer’s block during the pregnancy and filtered out any “freaky” stuff on the album.
