Prior to the release of her eagerly awaited fourth studio album, ‘Scarlet‘, Doja Cat has changed her appearance dramatically. She was seen naked and covered in artificial blood. The 27-year-old debuted the striking new appearance in June’s music video for ‘Attention‘, a single off her next album.

Since then, Doja has shared countless images of herself on Instagram, some of them to promote her Scarlet Tour and others showing her in the same bloody red look. Statues of the red, naked Doja also known as Scarlet, have also been seen in New York City, including on a basketball court in Tompkins Square Park and in what looks to be the subway.

    The Inspiration Behind ‘Balut’

    Doja Cat

Doja Cat recently took to Instagram to explain the theme of her most recent song, ‘Balut‘. The singer gave it a metaphor relating to X (formerly Twitter): “I named the song Balut because it signifies a bird that’s being eaten alive. It’s a metaphor for twitter stans and the death of twitter toxicity. The beginning of ‘X’ and the end of ‘tweets,” the singer stated in an attempt to convey the source of inspiration for the song.

The song has lyrics that say: “Every bitch that is here, copycat (Rawr)/ Copy the greats, that’s my number one strategy/ But beware that you can’t copy stats.”

Scarlet‘ comes out on 22nd September 2023.
