    Sam Raimi Reveals The Real Reason Why ‘Spider-Man 4’ Didn’t Happen

    Sam Raimi‘s long-awaited return to the superhero genre will happen next week with the release of the Marvel blockbuster ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ The film marks his return to directing after a nine-year absence following ‘Oz the Great and Powerful‘ in 2013. Along with his first superhero picture since the conclusion of his beloved ‘Spider-Man‘ trilogy in 2007.

    Raimi highlighted his return to superhero films in a wide-ranging interview with Rolling Stone. He also shared his memories of the original ‘Spider-Man‘ trilogy, which is the superhero film’s turning point. The series ended on a less successful note with ‘Spider-Man 3,’ which earned mixed reviews. Although a fourth film was planned, it was ultimately scrapped in favor of the franchise reboot. Maguire recently appeared in the smash-hit ‘Spider-Man’ crossover picture ‘No Way Home‘, in which he reprised his role.

    During the interview, Raimi claimed that ‘Spider-Man 4‘ was canceled owing to writing concerns that weren’t up to the standard he had set for the project. Raimi shared that it was a very difficult experience for him. And this is the reason why he decided to scrap it off by himself. Spider-Man 4 for Sam was a gem where he wanted to raise the benchmark. But the script did not look like it. Sam really did not want to make a mediocre film, rather he wanted to make something remarkable.

    Raimi talked about his plans for the fourth ‘Spider-Man‘ movie. This could’ve included casting Bruce Campbell as Mysterio and casting of Kraven the Hunter. The role will be played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in an upcoming solo spin-off, as the major villain. Raimi has discussed the potential of rejoining with Tobey Maguire, his ‘Spider-Man‘ co-star, for a belated trilogy sequel.

    In other parts of the interview, Raimi discussed his long career. It also includes his attempt to make a Thor feature with Stan Lee in the early 1990s. He also talked about his friendship with Joel and Ethan Coen. Raimi also talked about the difficulties and obstacles of working with Marvel Studios on a film. Although he stated that he had a “total creative license” while filming the second ‘Doctor Strange‘.

    Sam also mentioned how the existence of other MCU projects involving his characters influenced the composition of the ‘Multiverse of Madness‘ script. Raimi also acknowledged that getting the film on the screens will be difficult. But then he did not rule out the prospect of it happening.
