However, is there a role that Cruise has yet to play? A super-hero maybe. Some of the people he portrays are so unbreakable that they could pass for superheroes, for all intents and purposes.
It’s been reported that the soon-to-be 60-year-old actor came close to playing Tony Stark’s Iron Man in the MCU. It was just a matter of time until Robert Downey Jr. was cast in the role of Iron Man.

Tom Cruise Says That He Is Not The Right Choice For The Role Of Iron Man
In the wake of the international success of his latest picture, Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise’s career has never been better. Having a successful sequel to an iconic 1980s film shows that audiences still want to see him on the big screen, which might lead to additional possibilities in the future.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe may be able to go through one of those doors. Previously, Cruise had the opportunity to play Tony Stark in Iron Man, released in 2008. The part was subsequently awarded to another actor after he declined the assignment. According to him, he passed on the role because he didn’t think it was a suitable match for him.
Because of Cruise’s reputation for meticulous work, he appears to have prioritized project management. As a result of his keen awareness of the positions and projects that best fit his unique mix of abilities, he has made an impressive career for himself.
Cruise Backs Robert Downey Jr. As The Perfect Iron Man
In a separate interview, Tom Cruise expressed his personal belief that fellow actor Robert Downey Jr. would be an ideal choice to play Tony Stark. Affirming his admiration for Robert Downey Jr., he said, “As far as I’m concerned, there isn’t anyone else who could play that part.” He and the rest of the MCU fans agree that Downey Jr. was born to play a superhero, despite the fact that he had to go through a lot to get there.
With $585 million at the box office worldwide, Downey made the first Iron Man movie a huge success. In the words of Cruise, “It’s impossible to picture anybody else playing Tony Stark.”
The question is whether or not Tom Cruise will follow in the footsteps of Robert Downey Jr. and become a superhero. It’s not out of the question for him.
