Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s love story had more than a little help staying out of the spotlight during their university days. One close friend even stepped in to keep the media guessing while the future royal couple got to know each other.

Years later, that same woman has landed back in the headlines after celebrating a wedding that broke away from traditional royal style and embraced the Scottish Highlands instead.

Bryony Daniels studied alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton at the University of St. Andrews and built a close friendship with the future King. As media interest in William continued to grow, Daniels reportedly walked around campus with him as a “decoy” girlfriend, helping draw attention away from his budding relationship with Kate.

Royal fans may also remember Daniels appearing in the same St. Andrews charity fashion show where William reportedly first saw Kate in a new light. Friendship between the trio continued after university, and Daniels later attended William and Kate’s royal wedding at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011.

Now, years later, Daniels married Adair Williams, the nephew of the Duke of Sutherland, during a rainy weekend in Scotland. Instead of planning a formal celebration, the couple built their big day around everything they love about the Highlands.

Wedding photos captured horses, dogs and even a Highland cow joining the celebrations. Family and friends also headed into the Highlands after the ceremony. Daniels later swapped her bridal gown for hiking clothes while keeping her flowing veil, creating unforgettable mountain-top photos alongside Williams, loved ones and a pair of all-terrain vehicles.

Looking back on the celebration, Daniels wrote on Instagram, “One glorious week of being yours, and you mine. Suitably blessed by the ever present Highland summertime rain. Down Strath and up Monuments by hoof, foot, tank all in one day – Get away vehicle = the most handsome of landrovers.” Williams shared his own wedding photo carousel and kept the caption simple, writing, “Well done B. Magical. Xxx.

Wedding day memories began long before the couple exchanged vows. Daniels announced her engagement last November and revealed she and Williams were moving into his ancestral home, Herringston House, a Tudor manor in Dorset dating back to the 14th century. Proposal plans also unfolded in the Scottish Highlands, a destination Daniels described as “not EVERY girl’s dream location, but that’s the beauty of it.”

Daniels admitted the surprise left her overwhelmed with emotion. “I. cried. my. eyes. out. I’m still thinking about it. I had no idea. Garrons; (my type of white horses not his 🌊🏄🏼‍♂️) our wonderful team of stalkers all out on the hill together, quite by chance, & my family to return to in the lodge.”

She later added, “We walked off the hill hearts full, following the glas tol burn (also known as Englishman’s burn) down to loch vaich through the ancient Caledonian pine forest in the sunshine. Oh, & then Adair caught a rather large pike, the hallowed Thurso wave & the Aurora danced to say goodbye as we headed south to continue the house move @herringstonhouse I know perfection doesn’t exist but…. #iloveyou.

Celebrations continued after the wedding as Daniels shared another Instagram post featuring a brand-new Tustin handbag stamped with her new initials. “My new favourite treasure; Pour mémoire,” she wrote, giving followers one final glimpse into a wedding built around family, adventure and a place that has shaped the couple’s relationship since the very beginning.
