At 73, he became the oldest monarch in the history of Britain. At the coronation, he will officially become the king of the UK and 14 other Commonwealth realms.

    The much anticipated and talked about coronation ceremony will take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London. It will be different from the previous ceremonies and will be more inclusive. So let’s find out the total cost of this extravagant and royal affair.

    King Charles III’s coronation ceremony is pretty expensive and it will cost the taxpayers of the United Kingdom some money. While Buckingham Palace has not released a figure, it has been estimated that the event is quite big.

    According to a CNBC report, the coronation has cost between $63 million and $125 million (£50 and £100 million). This is the first British coronation event in around 70 years and is the first of its kind.

    Apart from the ceremony itself, the event also includes a King’s procession as well as a coronation concert in Windsor Gardens where names like Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Tom Cruise will perform.

    May 8 Is Also A Public Holiday In The UK

    The UK government has declared May 8 as a public holiday which is also going to cost the country around £1.36 billion because of loss of productivity. The entire event is funded by the government with Palace providing some disclosed amount.

    A lot of people have been protesting on the streets of the UK with placards that read “Not my King” as the country is going through an economic slump with prices of items soaring up.

    Prince Harry, Charles’ youngest son, is also going to attend the event. But Meghan Markle will be staying in California with her two children, Archie and Lilibet.
