What Advice Did Queen Elizabeth II Give Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Before Moving To Frogmore Cottage?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have created a rift between themselves and the royal family due to their constant attacks on the institution. It all started in 2020, when the couple stepped down from their royal duties due to ill-treatment from the family and constant media intrusion. Harry and Meghan shifted their bases to the US.

Before migrating to the US, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle resided in the Frogmore Cottage near the Frogmore House. Queen Elizabeth II gifted the house to the couple after their marriage in 2018. However, recently, due to budget cuts, they had to vacate the house. In his recent memoir, ‘Spare,’ Prince Harry mentioned the advice that his late grandmother gave while the couple shifted to Frogmore Cottage.

In January 2023, Prince Harry released his most controversial content piece to date, the memoir ‘Spare.’ In the memoir, he chronicled his stint within the royal family and how he observed and reacted to the happenings around him. While he did not have nice things to say about the members of the royal family, he talked fondly of the advice the late Queen Elizabeth II lent to the couple before they resided in Frogmore Cottage.

Earlier, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to reside at Kensington Palace’s Nottingham Cottage. But the couple thought that it was too small for “two rambunctious dogs and their firstborn, Archie. When they went to his grandmother, she suggested the Frogmore Cottage. While describing it, she said that the house is “a lovely place,” “historic,” “part of the Crown Estate,” and very sweet.

But Queen Elizabeth II gave the couple a word of caution. Harry wrote, “She warned: It’s a bit of a building site. Bit of a shell. But go and have a look and do tell me if it works.” After visiting the house, the couple agreed with what she said. Harry continued, “The house spoke to us both. Charming, full of potential. Hard by the Royal Burial Ground, but so what? Didn’t bother me or Meg. We wouldn’t disturb the dead if they’d promise not to disturb us.”

King Henry VIII bought Frogmore Cottage in the 18th Century, and Queen Charlotte, along with her daughters, occupied the house. Later, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert lived on the property, and the two had a burial near the abode. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a lot of memories attached to the place, but after they left for the US, Princess Eugene started living on that property.

Now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially vacated the property, as per the statement from the in-charge of the Privy Purse. Sir Michael Stevens stated, “We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage.”

He continued, “We will not be going into any detail on those arrangements here. Safe to say that, as has previously been stated, the duke and duchess have paid for the expenditure incurred by the Sovereign Grant in relation to the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, thus leaving the Crown with a greatly enhanced asset.”
