As excitement builds for the upcoming ‘Legally Blonde‘ prequel series, Elle, fans have one big question on their minds: will Reese Witherspoon make an appearance?

The actress recently addressed the possibility while discussing the new series. And although she didn’t confirm a cameo, her comments suggest that she isn’t ready to leave Elle Woods behind just yet.

The possibility of seeing Reese Witherspoon return as Elle Woods has become one of the biggest talking points. During a recent interview, the actress was directly asked whether fans could expect to see “future Elle” show up in ‘Elle‘.

While she stopped short of making any promises, Witherspoon made it clear that she would welcome the opportunity. She said, “You know, I would love to do it again. To me, it’s like, I don’t know, it’s like, it’s my superhero. So it’s like my Marvel character. I would love to play her again.”

That response immediately gave fans hope that some version of Elle Woods’ future could eventually be woven into the prequel’s story. However, Witherspoon also explained that she has a very specific standard in mind before revisiting the character herself.

She added, “It just has to be perfect. Like, Tom Cruise did it right. He only came out with Top Gun when it was absolutely right. And I was like, he nailed it. I feel like it’s similar to when, like, Tom Cruise came back with Top Gun. Or like, Adam Sandler came back in Happy Gilmore. Like, that amount of thought. So we’re gonna get there.

Although Witherspoon remains focused on making her return meaningful, she revealed that she was heavily involved in bringing ‘Elle‘ to life. The project began after she watched Netflix’s ‘Wednesday‘ and started thinking about what Elle Woods might have been like as a teenager.

Explaining how the idea took shape, she said, “You know, well, first of all, the idea to bring Elle Woods back at this moment was really exciting because I watched that Wednesday show on Netflix. And I called my producing partner, Lauren Neustadter, and I said, We should take this moment to really see who Elle Woods would have been in high school.’ What were her values and principles that made her this ambitious young woman?

The concept quickly gained momentum as the team explored Elle’s origins. Witherspoon explained, “So when we started thinking like that, it was like, yes, we need to do this“. Instead of revisiting the lawyer fans already know, the series will focus on the experiences that shaped her long before ‘Legally Blonde‘ began.

Even if Witherspoon does not appear in the first season, she sounds completely confident in the actress stepping into Elle Woods’ shoes. The production team ultimately cast Lexi Minetree as the younger version of the iconic character, and Witherspoon could not be more enthusiastic about the choice.

Speaking about the casting process, she said, “So we’ve had so much fun creating this show with this great cast. We got to find Lexi Minichi to play the new Elle Woods, and she is phenomenal. She’s got the energy. She studied the character. And I’m so excited for the world to meet her.” For now, ‘Elle‘ will focus on the teenage years of the beloved character. But Witherspoon’s comments leave the door wide open for a future appearance.
