The church bells toll for the not-so-dearly departed Logan Roy on ‘Succession.’ Outside, the protestors cause a rumble in the gridlocked streets of New York. After declaring Jared Mencken President-elect, the Roys prepare for Logan’s funeral. Roman decides to deliver the eulogy, occasionally improvising while practicing. At the funeral, the who’s who of America, including close family, associates, and former wives, appear. Everyone attends the funeral but Tom, who is dealing with the fallout of the electoral result.
Despite resistance, Logan’s estranged brother, Ewan (in an astounding oratory performance from James Cromwell), decides to speak at his brother’s funeral. He shames the behavior of the Roy kids, now allowing him to speak for fear of the company’s stock plummeting. As expected, Ewan’s words about Logan’s upbringing and ruthlessness are introspective but cut deep. This man is wrestling with the love and indignation he feels simultaneously for a man nobody could ever understand. When it is Roman’s turn, he falls apart, forcing Kendall to take over. He’s enigmatic, says the right things, and doesn’t let it get too sad.
