On Wednesday, ‘The Bear’ broke a record by becoming the comedy series with the most nominations in a single year with 23 Emmy nominations. 15 years ago, ’30 Rock,’ which received 22 nominations, held the record.

The show received recognition at the Emmys for its second season, which debuted in June 2023, and received a lot more nominations than it did for its debut season, which had just 13. Three of its main actors, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Jeremy Allen White, received nominations in main categories. While recognition also went towards technical categories like sound mixing and picture editing.

Along with a directorial nomination for show creator Christopher Storer, the show also garnered nods for guest parts starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Odenkirk, and Jon Bernthal.

The show revolves around a talented chef named Carmy Berzatto who travels back to his birthplace of Chicago to take over his late brother’s failing sandwich shop.

Carmy has to face his troubled background and figure out how to handle a dysfunctional kitchen crew while he manages the difficulties of operating a small business. The show follows him as he finds ways to bring the shop back to its former glory with the help of his talented yet down-to-earth crew, which includes Sydney, a talented chef with a love for food, and Richie, a gruff but endearing kitchen worker.

Though labeled a comedy, the show also delves into emotional aspects and family dynamics and has opened to a variety of positive feedback- as can be seen in the number of nominations and awards it has racked up. The show has three seasons, but seeing its glory and critical acclaim, fans can expect there to be more to the story.
