Even though it was stated in 2020 that Amber Heard would be appearing in the ‘Aquaman‘ sequel, her role as Mera was significantly diminished. The information was made public during Heard’s turbulent court dispute with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, in which she claimed she had to struggle to save her position inAquaman 2. Heard contended that Depp’s charges caused her character to be given less screen time, calling her abuse claims a “hoax.”

In contrast, Walter Hamada, president of DC Films at Warner Bros., refuted this, saying the Depp incident didn’t lessen her position. According to Hamada, the movie was originally envisioned as a “buddy comedy” starring Patrick Wilson’s Orm and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. Still, there were rumors that Heard could have to be recast because of apparent chemistry problems with Momoa.

Additionally, according to reports, Warner Bros. decided against replacing Heard after receiving a note from her ex-boyfriend, Elon Musk, threatening the company.
