Matt Reeves’ Gotham is proving to be darker than you thought. As ‘The Batman Part II’ is getting new casting updates, it appears that the sequel will not only bring in Harvey Dent, but also explore the painful past that turns him into one of the most tragic villains of Batman.
‘The Batman Part II’ May Finally Tell Harvey Dent’s Full Tragic Story

Reports suggest that Charles Dance is in talks to join the film as Harvey Dent’s father, a character rarely explored in live-action Batman stories. This is a big deal if true. It is an indication that the film is not merely fascinated by Dent as the white knight of Gotham, but the mental trauma that defines his demise.

Fans already associate Dance with cold, intimidating authority thanks to his role as Tywin Lannister. Applying the same energy to Gotham would render the upbringing of Harvey truly disturbing.
And when the character remains true to the comics, in which the father of Dent is an abuser and a troubled soul, it preconditions a much more personal and disturbing story than we have ever witnessed.
In conjunction with this, the casting of Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent and Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Gold is rumored to imply that the Dent family will be at the center stage. This is not a mere introduction of a villain; it seems to be the emotional support of the narrative.
Gotham’s Next Villain Could Be Shaped by Family, Not Just Fate

The transformation of Harvey Dent has been discussed in previous Batman movies, most notably in ‘The Dark Knight’. However, even then, the emphasis was on his fall, not the basis that caused it. Reeves seems to be flipping that approach. The film can demonstrate that Two-Face is not made in one bad day by introducing Dent’s father, as it is something that has been developing over the years.

The pressures, the trauma, and expectations all pile up until something eventually breaks. It is a more down-to-earth, human manner of narrating the story, and it suits the tone set in ‘The Batman’ very well. It also poses a huge question: will Harvey already be Two-Face in this movie, or are we going to witness his metamorphosis in real time?
The latter seems more probable and, in fact, more convincing, in case his family life is as unhealthy as the comics imply. It is disturbing to watch a hero fail when you know the reason why it occurs. It is not merely a spectacle, but a tragedy. Should this trend continue, The Batman Part II may not only bring Two-Face on board, but it may even make you experience Harvey Dent’s transformation.
