Moretz tasted fame at a very young age after she did ‘The Amityville Horror’ at the age of eight. However, she quickly experienced its dark side as older men would infantilize her.
In her recent appearance on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, the ‘Let Me In’ actress said: “It was always odd from my first leading role when I was 14 inĀ āCarrieā.”
She continued, “It was always really interesting to see who would be really unhappy with a young woman.Ā At that point, I had already worked for so many years ā almost 10 years ā and as I continued through having more important roles on set as I grew up, it was always very interesting to see the pushback that I would get from a lot of people.ā
The actress then talked about being treated badly by older men. “The majority of it was older men for sure who would infantilize me,ā she said. āIf I had real things to bring to the table, a lot of the time it would get shot downā¦ Having to even advocate to an older man on behalf of your 14, 15, 16-year-old self is a really, really crazy kind of mind fuck.”

Moretz Talked About Her Power Struggle With Older Men
In the same interview, the Saturn Award winner talked about how she would often engage in a āpower struggleā with older men on sets. “I think boundaries are super important,ā Moretz stated.
She further elaborated, āAnd part of realizing your boundaries and actually enforcing your boundaries is speaking your truth without blame or judgement to people.ā
The actress then said that having boundaries is a “new thing for me” as she “didnāt grow up with any boundariesā. āI didnāt learn any boundaries in my life and I got hit like a ton of bricks multiple times and I was like, āYou know what? I think I need to learn this thing called boundaries,āā she concluded.
