One of the greatest comedians of all time has left a farewell gift for his fans. The gift is one final Netflix stand-up special before he passed away. Norm Macdonald, the Saturday Night Live star was diagnosed with cancer back in 2012 and had refrained from talking about it in the public sphere. He was bound to have a comeback in comedy which was in the works. Norm’s final work was for a Netflix special, which is famously known as ‘Netflix is a Joke’, fest. But during this time he was again admitted to hospital for degrading health.
About Macdonald’s Netflix Special
Lori Jo Hoekstra, Macdonald’s longtime producing partner, gives details of the special in an interview. She said, “His test results were not good, so during the heart of COVID-19 pandemic and literally the night before going in for a procedure, he wanted to get this on tape just in case — as he put it — things went south”.
“It was his intention to have a special to share if something happened. This had given rise to the idea of filming a stand-up special in Norm’s living room. The entire one-hour episode is said to be filmed in a single take. The special has turned out great,” said the producer friend. She quoted, “He looks great, and the material’s fantastic.”
The backstory to the filmed tape is talked about further. He talks about the incident where they had literary tossed out the filmed footage in a closet, as Macdonald’s procedure had gone safely. But a setback came a year later when his health deteriorated before the special could be shot properly before an audience. But nonetheless, they went forward with the first tape which was recorded in Norm’s living room. He even managed to watch it one last time before he passed away. A suggestion was made by him for the title which some might say is self-deprecating. The title is “Nothing Special”.
Adam Sandler Will Pay Tribute To The Comedian
This special will be released by Netflix on their platform, as a surprise program- Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special, on May 30. The talks of Nothing Special are already doing roundabouts in various social circles. This could be because some might consider it a “Postmortem last joke and testament”.
The program would also include famous stars like Adam Sandler, Conan O’Brien, Dave Chappelle, David Letterman, David Spade, and Molly Shannon. They would be paying tribute to Macdonald and discuss him in this Netflix Fest.
