Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are currently engaged in an intense legal fight, but their romance wasn’t always so tumultuous. The ex-couple met on the sets of “The Rum Diary” in 2009. They both began dating in 2012 after falling in love with each other. In 2014 Amber was wearing a huge engagement ring. Later Deep confirmed their engagement. The couple finally tied the knot on Bahamas Island in 2015.
However things didn’t go as expected and After only 15 months of marriage, Heard filed for divorce and it was finalized in 2016. Let’s see what went wrong between the once “made for each other” couple.
Heard On Her Reason For Divorce
Amber Heard filed for divorce from Deep in 2016 and obtained a temporary restraining order four days later. Heard abused Deep of physical violence and said it was usually when he used to be drunk. In 2018 Heard wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post. In the op-ed, Heard wrote: “I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.”
In 2019, the Depp sued Heard for $50 million over the op-ed. Depp’s lawyers said: “The op-ed depended on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.”
In 2020, attorneys played phone recordings in front of the jurors in which both seem to be abusing each other “Suck my d–k, suck my d–k,” Heard was telling Depp on that tape. To which Johnny replied, “You’re an f—ing kiding yourself, I wish I hadn’t bought into any of the lies you sold.” These recordings were played during Amber’s cross-examination by Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez. “Talk about a fake bill of goods, Talk about presenting yourself as something you’re not,” said Amber.
Vasquez played another audio clip in front of the jury which concerened the Depp’s kids from his past relationship. In the recording, Heard apologized to Depp for shouting at him in front of the kids. “I’m sorry I f—ed your kids up,” Heard says. “It was pretty f—ing weird for them, you know?” After a brief pause, Depp replied, “doesn’t need clever comebacks”.
Johnny Depp Vs Amber Heard: The Verdict?
Although Amber Heard didn’t name Johnny in her Op-ed, the actor claims that it impacted his ability to find work. Amber Heard has counter-sued with a $100 million case against Depp. After four weeks of the trial, the proceedings resumed today. But the trial’s holding time of five weeks is far from over. The trial expectedly will be ending sometime after May 27.
If Johnny Depp wins the case, Amber Heard will have to pay Johnny substantial damages. But if the jury doesn’t find Heard guilty, Depp will have to pay her the legal fees which she had to spend. Some People are arguing that if Depp wins, it might discourage other victims of domestic violence from coming forward.
