    Kris Wu: A Predator?

Last year, 19-year-old student Du Meizhu accused Wu of raping her on a date when she was 17. This led to a flurry of public outrage and luxury firms cutting ties with him. The court in Beijing’s Chaoyang district said that Wu had received a sentence of “11 years and six months of imprisonment for rape,” as well as “one year and ten months of imprisonment for the crime of gathering people to commit adultery.” which was a July 2018 event in which he and other people assaulted two drunken women.

He has been given 13-year imprisonment. Kris Wu will then be deported from China to Canada, where he was raised, right away. The court declared, “This decision was made in accordance with the facts, as well as the nature, circumstances, and harmful consequences of the crime.”

Following Du Meizhu’s accusation, other claimed victims came forward online and accused Wu’s staff of acting predatorily toward them, including inviting them to drunken karaoke parties.

What Did Du Meizhu Say About Wu?

Du could have encouraged China’s own #MeToo movement, the Girls Help Girls trend, but the journey wasn’t easy for her. Weibo Du stated, “I have had numerous breakdowns and repeated thoughts to end my life, and throughout the waiting period [until his conviction] I was bombarded with online vitriol.” She disclosed that online critics criticized her for engaging in sexual activity in her teens and accused her of trying to extort money from Kris.

Du charged Kris with bringing her to his house under the guise of an audition and compelling her to drink excessively. She found herself naked on his bed when she woke up. Additionally, Wu stated on Weibo, “I never ‘selected women,’ I didn’t seduce, drug, or rape anyone! There were no underage girls. If there was really such behavior, you can be assured that I will send myself to prison! I take legal responsibility for everything that I say here!”

“In the future I will use my influence to help more people in need and make more contributions to my hometown,” she said. She wishes for a better future now that her hardship is over. “It’s time to say goodbye to the years that were stolen from my youth,” she wrote. “I don’t know if the future will be great, but I hope society can change to become more accepting. I hope I can continue pursuing my dreams — the journey is long, one day the sun will shine again.”
