“We’ll Always Be A Family”: Terry Crews Reminisces About The Special ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Reunion To Honor Late Andre Braugher

Brooklyn Nine-Nineis one of the most celebrated romcoms that lost one of its chief cast members in the recent past. Andre Braugher, who played Captain Raymond Holt on the show, died in December 2023 after battling Cancer at the age of 61.

Though the show has long been over, the cast members have maintained their relationship quite well. Braugher’s death, therefore, came as a huge shock for the cast members. Terry Crews, who played Sergeant Terry Jeffords on the show, recently shared insights into the tight bond among the cast that grew stronger after they lost Braugher.

In a recent interview at the America’s Got Talent season 19 red carpet, 55-year-old Terry Crews revealed that the ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘ cast had a heartfelt reunion in New York City earlier this month. The gathering was to pay a tribute to their late co-star Andre Braugher, who died after living with lung cancer at the age of 61.

Oh man, reuniting with the cast,” he sighed with a pensive smile. “We laughed, we cried, we missed Andre Braugher, who we lost a few months ago. It was our time to reminisce and just think about how special our time together was,” he said.

The friendship that the cast has still retained after over eight seasons of shared experiences, is something Crews described as “a lifetime in television years.” He acknowledged the rarity of such a long-running sitcom, and said he feels grateful for the enduring friendships cultivated on and off-screen.

To have a sitcom go that long — I don’t know if it’s going to happen again,” he explained. “It’s very rare and we all recognize how fortunate we are and we love each other. We’ll always be a family. We’ll always be connected.”

It’s beautiful. It was wonderful,” he said.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which aired from 2013 to 2021, followed the story of Detective Jake Peralta and the team at the NYPD’s 99th Precinct. The stellar cast of the show included Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz and Chelsea Peretti among others.

After the unexpected death of Andre Braughers, Terry Crews paid a heartfelt tribute to Braugher on Instagram. “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent,” he wrote on Instagram.

This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you,” he continued. “Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like. Rest In Peace, Andre. I love you, man,” he wrote.

The recent reunion, documented in a heartwarming Instagram post shared by Crews and his co-star Melissa Fumero, marked the first public gathering of the cast in three years. Crews aptly captioned the post, “Could not have described last night any better…!” NINE-NINE. We laughed. We cried a little. We reminisced. We laughed some more. Nine Nine Forever“.
