    Penney S. Azcarate is the chief justice judge of the 19th Judicial Circuit in Virginia. She was elected on February 25, 2015, and took office on July 1. With an experience of more than a decade, she is in charge of all the proceedings of the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial.

    The renowned lawyer completed her graduation from Scalia Law, George Mason University, in 1998. She then held the post of Assistant Commonwealth attorney for five years, before switching up to enter private practice. She put on the crown of being the first female judge of the General District Court. Penney achieved the opportunity to serve on the General District Court bench with her hard work in 2008. After seven years, she got her justice seat in the Fairfax County Circuit Court.

    Her works include an initiative to create the Veterans Treatment Docket in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This step of hers helped millions of veterans in Virginia to fight mental health problems and substance abuse issues. Before starting her practice in the field of law, she served in the United States Marine Corps and in the reserves while attending law school.
