The series is based on author J. R. R. Tolkien’s history of Middle-earth and is set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

It begins in a period of relative calm and covers all of Middle earth’s Second Age key events, including the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the destruction of the island kingdom of Numerator, and the final union between Elves and Men.
