Johnny Depp has sued Amber Heard for $50 million regarding an alleged defamatory article that she wrote in the Washington Post. In turn, Amber counter-sued him for $100 million. Both have accused each other of physical assault and testified for them. The trial has been in motion since April 12th, 2022 at Fairfax County Court, Virginia.
However, after a few days, the trial commenced, and social media took the role of jurisprudence. Social media got divided into Team Johnny Depp and Team Amber Heard. It is not just Johnny Depp who is worshiped, but the attorney defending the Pirates of the Caribbean actor Camille Vasquez has gained a spotlight.
Who Is Camille Vasquez, The Lawyer Making Amber Heard Fumble?
The person gaining traction in the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial is Camille Vasquez. The attorney attended the University of Southern California in 2006, where she graduated with a notable distinction. Vasquez’s law journey began as she joined Southwestern Law School in 2010 after clearing her bar exams from California. She wins the title of “One to Watch” by The Best Lawyers in America for 2021-2022.
She started practicing law at a National firm in Los Angeles. Currently, she is an associate in the Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group at Brown Rudnick. According to Camille’s bio, “Her current practice focuses on plaintiff-side defamation suits, with additional experience litigating contract disputes, business-related torts, and employment-related claims. She also has extensive experience handling parallel reputation management and crisis communications issues arising from these engagements.”
What Role Camille Is Playing In The Johnny Depp Trial?
The first time was when attorney Vasquez occurred during the opening statements on April 11th, 2022. Along with Vasquez, Benjamin Chew is also representing Johnny Depp in the case. So, during the opening statement, Camille Vasquez alleged that Amber charmed him by winning his heart, but the actor was resistant at first due to the relationship he was in with Vanessa Paradis.
However, in the past two weeks, the attorney had garnered a lot of fan following along with the actor she is representing. It was because of Camille, that Amber Heard admitted that she did not donate the “pledged” amount of $7 million to The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union(ACLU). During the cross-examination,
Camille asked, “But you hadn’t donated your entire $7 million settlement to charity at this point?” Amber Heard replied that it was an “incorrect statement” as she “pledged the entirety.”Camille further dug deeper and asked, “Try to answer my question, sitting here today, you have not donated the $7 million divorce settlement to charity?”
Heard said, “I use pledge and donation synonymous with one another,” to which Ms. Vasquez shot back, “I don’t.” The court heard that the ACLU received only $1.3 million out of the requested $3.5 million. This cross-examination went viral on the internet making Camille Vasquez an overnight star.
